ST. WENDELIN CHURCH COMPLEX
St. Wendelin Parish was founded in 1856 when several men living southwest of St. Henry went
To Cincinnati to ask permission for a new Roman Catholic parish to serve their spiritual needs. Permission was granted. Nine men from the area bought five acres of land, with an unfinished frame building on it for $200. The unfinished building was finished as a store downstairs and a church on the second floor. This was known as the St. Wendelin Mission Church.
By 1868 it was decided to erect a brick church. A 42' x 100' building was agreed upon, and the parishioners agreed to make the brick themselves. The church was finished in about two years and dedicated on St. Wendelin's Day in 1870. The church with additions and renovations is still the parish church today. A rectory was erected in 1905. The Society of the Precious Blood has provided the parish with pastors since the founding of the parish. St. Wendelin currently has about 75 families as members.
