Meetings are held the first Saturday of
each month - April through December - at the
Moose Lodge, 1120 East Market Street in Celina.
Our fund raising activities have been
very successful. Currently, we are selling a
picture post card history booklet of the Grand
Lake for $5.00. In addition to meeting once
each month for an enjoyable and informative
gathering, we sponsor many activities around
the lake. These include aids to navigation,
annual shoreline clean-up, kids fishing derby
and other projects to support the park management.
Our membership is growing and we welcome you
to attend a meeting and eventually to join for
$10.00 per year.
Although the summer activities on the Lake are
ending, there is still good hunting and fishing
ahead. How fortunate we are to live in a country
that provides us the opportunity to pursue happiness.
Our hearts and prayers go to the victims and
their families for the recent attack on our
country. Our support and prayers are with those
who will ensure justice. God Bless America!

The coming of the fall season is an excellent
time to enjoy the outdoors at Grand Lake St.
Marys State Park. Cooler temperatures signal
the beginning of the fall fishing season with
perch being the number one target. More and
more reports of walleye being caught are coming
in weekly. Although most being caught are still
small, it is good to know they are out there
and growing.
Fall season is what some people refer to as
the best season to go camping. Our full service
camp operations continue until November 1. Our
2nd annual Halloween Campout will occur on October
12,13, and 14. Stop by or call the park office
for details. Reservations for cabins, teepees,
rent a camp, group camp and shelter houses for
2002 can be made on January 2 by calling or
stopping at the park office. This is a change
from previous years when reservations were not
taken until March 1.
The renovations at the Its It and Windy
Point boat ramp facilities are now completed.
Also the new shelter house at Windy Point will
receive some minor adjustments and be ready
for picnickers to use next spring.
Remember to properly winterize your boat and
perform preventative maintenance. A little money
spent now can save you a lot later.
Boat owners and boat dock owners are reminded
that annual dock fees are now overdue. Up to
date dock stickers are required to be displayed
on the licensed watercraft and on the dock structure.
Dock owners are obligated by law to maintain
their docks in good condition. A construction
of seawall and/or docks requires a state dock/seawall
permit. In the upcoming seasons dock/boat owners
can expect closer scrutiny by park staff in
insuring compliance with these regulations.
Remember to wear your lifejackets,
they save lives.

The Friends of Franklin Annual Fall Social
and Silent Auction
The Friends of Franklin is a non-profit
organization which strives to promote the welfare
of the children of Franklin Elementary by fostering
a close connection between the home and the
school. The organization has monthly meetings
on the first Tuesday of the month at 7:00 p.m.
in the media center of the school. An important
aspect of the Friends of Franklin is holding
fundraisers to promote the school as well as
purchase items for school ,which benefit the
education of children.
The Friends of Franklin is currently preparing
for the annual Fall Social and Silent Auction.
This event will be held Saturday, November 10,
2001, from 5:30-9:00 p.m. at Franklin elementary.
This is a wonderful opportunity for the Franklin
families and community to get together for an
evening of fun for the entire family. Chili,
hotdogs, brats, pizza, salads and desserts will
be served.
Children will enjoy listening to entertainment
by C & J Music Mix as well as participating
in several fun games and activities. Adults
will have the opportunity to participate in
the Silent Auction of over 100 donated items.
In conjunction with the Fall Social, students
will again be selling the raffle tickets for
the turkeys. This event is a great way to raise
money for Franklin Elementary and is open to
the entire Franklin community.
