FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP
Working Aggressively to Remove Road Hazards
There are many different types of roadway hazards the Township Trustees are attempting to eliminate. Some are maintenance type hazards, others are major capital improvement projects.
Each type of hazard has the potential to make a driverŐs mistake a very costly one.
The Franklin Township Trustees have identified seven roadway hazards that they are currently working on.
1. Roadway widths - many township roads are narrow and need to be widened.
2. Steep drop-offs on the sides of the roads - steep drop-offs in conjunction with the narrow roads cause a hazardous condition.
3. Trees and other fixed objects close to road - vehicles striking a fixed object, like a tree, can cause very serious injuries.
4. Sharp curves in road - can cause problems especially when wet or snow and ice covered.
5. Blunt end guard rail near edge of road - vehicles striking a fixed object like this can cause very serious injuries.
6. Concrete culvert headwalls near road - vehicles striking fixed object like this can cause very serious injuries.
7. Mailbox posts made of a material other than 4 x 4 wood near edge of road - these mailbox posts made of very sturdy material such as I-beams, concrete, brick, steel or other material that does not break off easily on impact cause a serious threat to drivers. Mailboxes are located very close to the edge of the roads, and these posts holding the mailboxes need to be made of some material that breaks off easily so as not to cause physical harm or injury. This is an item all home owners need to take care of themselves.
Please help keep Franklin Township safe!
